When and why did you first volunteer with parkrun?
I completed the same Swinton Running Club beginners course as our Co-Event Director Becky at the end of 2015, and then started running parkrun regularly. I volunteered a couple of times after that but then ended up injured in April 2016 so started volunteering every week from then on. Once I was fit again I carried on volunteering every week as I enjoyed it, and I’m currently around about 170 volunteering days so far.
Which is your favourite volunteer role?
Barcode scanning is my first choice, but after that anything else at the finish area.
What would you say to someone who is unsure if volunteering is for them?
You won’t know unless you try it, have a go at a few different roles and you’ll find something you like. I did it every week as it was just like having a laugh with your mates, then you go to the cafe afterwards and have a big breakfast.
What are you doing when you're not at parkrun?
When I’m not working or involved in family time I try to keep injury free so that I can run. My other hobbies are a tank of tropical fish, trying to turn small shrubs into bonsai trees, and I’ve recently rediscovered something from my childhood years in the form of model kits.
What would be your parkrun anthem?
I’ve never ever ran with music so I’m stuck for an answer for that one, it’d probably be something from either Iron Maiden or AC/DC though.
